Walmart Canada has announced a brand-new, high-tech, sortable 430,000 square-foot fulfilment centre will be built in Rocky View County (RVC). The centre will cost more than $118 million to build and act as a new delivery hub for Western Canada.

“Walmart’s investment in our province is another indication that our competitive business environment is what major companies are looking for. This new fulfilment centre is not just creating jobs for Albertans in both the short and long term, it will improve the customer experience throughout all of Western Canada,” said Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation.

The fulfilment centre is expected to create 325 jobs by the time it opens in the coming fall. The project is also creating numerous engineering and construction positions for the construction of the centre.

RVC Mayor Don Kochan says, “The new Walmart Canada fulfilment centre is great news for Rocky View County. This project will create short-term jobs while the facility is under construction and long-term employment, contributing to our local economy. We remain thankful that major companies continue to build and expand here, taking advantage of the unique opportunities that exist within the county.”

It's another success story for the county that follows in the footsteps of both Amazon and Sobeys increasing their presence in Balzac's High Plains Industrial Park in 2020 and Lowe's Canada developing its Western Canada bulk distribution centre in the same industrial park.

“Walmart’s choice to serve their Western Canadian customers from the Calgary area is another signal to the world that our province is coming back, stronger than ever," says Premier Jason Kenney.

The new centre is capable of shipping 20 million items annually from the Rocky View site to customers.
