The Rocky View Silvertips are in unfamiliar territory with an 8-7 win over the Calgary Mavericks last night (June 16) in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

The win leapfrogs the Tips over the Calgary Chill to grab the top spot in the Jr. B tier 1 central division.

The win didn't come without its challenges, though. The Tips held off a four-goal push by the Mavericks in the third for the win. The Mavericks' Brodie Gladue scored twice on a powerplay late in the game to close the gap until the Tips successfully held them off the scoreboard in the last 57 seconds of play.

It was a five-point night for the Tips' Josh Halcro with one goal and four assists. Ryan Gulutzan and Jordon Waddell both scored two and assisted on two, Hunter McChesney scored two, including the eventual game-winner and the division's leading scorer Nolan Oakey was limited to one goal. Matthew Dyck, a longtime staple of the club, had three assists on the night.

The Tips hit the road this weekend for a northern swing against the St. Albert Crude, the top team in the north, and the Edmonton Warriors. With a 10-3 record, the Crude is the top-seeded team in the northern division.

The Chill have fallen to a 7-4 record but continue to hold on to second in the highly-competitive division.

Eight games remain in the regular season for the Silvertips, three of which are at home at the SLS Family Sports Centre.

Their next home game is June 28 against the Red Deer Rampage.

Season over for Rage

After a heartbreaking loss at home Friday night, the Jr. B tier II Rage will miss the RMLL playoffs.

The Calgary Wranglers surged back with five goals in the third to tie the game 8-8 in the battle for the final playoff spots in the southwest division. At 2:53 of overtime Kolby Dyck scored the winner and sent the Rage packing for the season.

The Rage closed out their season, also at home, with a 20-8 loss to the league-leading Sylvan Lake Yetti last night. Yetti goes into the playoffs with a 13-1 record.

There was no shortage of high points for the Rage. They finished with a 5-9 record in their second season of play. The team continues to serve as an important development team for the Silvertips and also provides the opportunity for players to continue the sport after minor lacrosse.
