Starting Wednesday, September 21, Albertans 18 and older can book an appointment to receive the Health Canada-approved Moderna Spikevax Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine.

The bivalent vaccine is said to trigger a stronger immune response and provide additional protection against both the Omicron and original strain of the virus.

Any Albertan who has completed a primary series of vaccination for COVID-19 is eligible for the bivalent vaccine. It is recommended that a five-month interval have occurred between the last dose or a previous infection.

The Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available by late September and early October for residents ages 12-17 years of age.

Vaccine appointments can be booked through participating pharmacies and medical clinics and select AHS sites. Residents of First Nations can access doses through the nursing stations or public health clinics on reserve.

Bookings will be available through the Alberta Vaccine Booking System or by calling Health Link at 811.
