A search conducted last Friday (Apr. 23) by the Cochrane RCMP in the Mitford Pond area and adjacent trails proved fruitless.

In this case, that was a good outcome.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff explains the search was conducted after RCMP received a report that a suicidal male was missing who may have needed assistance.

A police dog aided with the search that proved difficult because several other users were in the area at the time. While the search was being conducted, residents were asked to avoid the area.

"Ultimately, our officers determined that the person we were looking for was no longer in danger and that they no longer needed our services, so we appropriately concluded the search and sent the dog home."

Cpl. Savinkoff says reports of people in mental distress are given a top priority.

"Those are high-risk calls that we want to deal with very quickly," he says.
