A number of members of the Cochrane BMX club will be heading to Edmonton this weekend for the first two Provincial races in an 8 race circuit.

There will be a variety of riders heading up for the weekend to compete, of all genders, aged 5 up to 55.

Cochrane BMX Club President Brad Christensen says Cochrane is usually pretty successful at these competitions.

"We've had some kids break out over the last couple of years," he says. "We've got some of the top young riders in the province. I expect to see a few more make some noise this weekend, and hopefully we can bring home some hardware."

Most of the kids who compete in these provincial competitions are on the local track about 3 or 4 times a week, Christensen adds Provincials will still be an eye opener for some riders this year.

"We've got a five year old this year, he'll be experiencing his first Provincials this year. It's always fun to watch the little kids go up and compete, it's quite a change from our local races here where we get 75 to 80 riders out, and up there there will be about 450."
