In just under three weeks students will be heading back to their classrooms for the fall school year, and for the students of Cochrane's Bow Valley High (BVH) School, there will be plenty more wiggle room.

If you've driven past the local high school in recent days you may have noticed a new addition that comes in the form of six modular classrooms.

The modulars couldn't have come soon enough as BVH has been operating at 100 per cent capacity for some time now and is projected to be well above capacity for the 2021 -2022 school year.

Board Chair of Rocky View Schools (RVS), Fiona Gilbert voiced her disappointment back in March, when BVH wasn't prioritized for an expansion in the provincial budget. It was announced in May that the high school would be receiving modulars as a means to remedy the overcrowded classes.

When notified of the addition, Bow Valley High's Principal Jim Reilly said the modulars would widely benefit the rapidly growing high school.

"As you can imagine, this is a very welcome addition and will go a long way to alleviate some of the pressure of a building that has been bursting at the seams," explained Reilly.

Exactly what the upcoming school year will look like for Rocky View students is still a question mark.

Last week the province outlined a back-to-school plan saying that students can expect a near-normal return, but also left room for school authorities to implement additional local measures. In a statement from RVS, they say that they are "currently reviewing this information and will be providing a local RVS plan in the coming weeks."
