If you are looking to get in the festive spirit, Water Valley will be the place to be November 26.

The second annual 'Christmas in the Valley' has a ton of activities planned in the picturesque community.

Erin Kergen, Co-organizer, says after such a successful event last year they wanted to keep the event going.

"We had about 1500 to 2000 people come, it was quite busy and very successful, we were very blessed. We are hoping we will actually see an increase in traffic just because last year was our first time doing it."

Last year's success had vendors knocking on organizers' doors hoping to be part of the Christmas magic this year.

Kergen says activities will be plentiful and keep both young and old busy.

"We have a wonderful man that comes out and he does wagon rides all through town, we have an outdoor bonfire pit, where the girls from Baroke will have a smore building station, Search and Rescue comes out and has little games kids can play on trying to locate Santa, we have a free kids craft area, we will also have Santa, Cochrane Glee Club will be singing and caroling all day, we have about 45 vendors- this a curated market so some really world class crafters and artisans from the local area around Alberta. The vendor selection is just phenomenal as well as the food selection. It has everything designed to get people out of the city to come and experience a beautiful, traditional, country Christmas."

The small hamlet of Water Valley is a secret gem.

"If you live here you kind of guard it a bit, we live in a postcard, in a snow globe, We are the Bragg Creek and Canmore that hasn't been discovered yet. The day trippers that know about us, love us."

The event takes place throughout town with activities at a variety of locations; it is absolutely free for everyone, but donations will be happily accepted for Water Valley's future community hall.

The only thing missing so far is the snow, but according to Kergen some old time locals will tell you it is coming.

"It's funny, when you live in a small community like Water Valley and you go to the Hardware store there's all the ol'timers shooting the breeze and they have been saying we are in for quite the winter because the squirrels have been gathering nuts like crazy."

It will be interesting to see if their prediction comes true.
