The pedestrian tunnel under Highway 22 is set to close tomorrow (Aug. 24).

This is necessary because of the work being done to the Highway 1A/22 Interchange.

Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors said the tunnel will be closed permanently.

Pedestrians who want to cross Highway 22 will now have to walk a bit further. They'll be re-routed south, using the paved pathway that is east of the pedestrian tunnel, adjacent to Quigley Close.

To ensure everyone remains safe, construction fencing will be put up on the east side of the highway, next to the tree line. This will separate the pathway from the construction zone.

Crews will build a new pedestrian underpass south of Highway 1A to cross Highway 22. This will be slightly north of the current pedestrian tunnel.
