Rain or shine, the Gospel-ish Concert will be happening this Sunday, July 7 at the St. Andrew's United Church, 120 1st St. E.

Six performers will be presenting music in the annual concert offered by the United Church to the community. It runs for three hours from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

They'll be a span of genres performed, including country rock, folk, Celtic and woodwind. The concert's name may have "gospel" in it, but Rev. Ray Goodship says the emphasis is on the last syllable.

"It's pretty heavy on the '-ish' rather than 'gospel'. I'm not sure what everybody else is playing but [4good] will probably be performing some Bruce Cockburn, Steve Earle, Beatles, that sort of stuff. More inspirational, than religious."

Weather permitting the concert will happen on the front lawn of the church. If not, they can promptly be moved indoors. The church's morning service, that includes a baptism, will also be held outdoors if possible.

"Lots of people walk by here on a Sunday so maybe they'll stop in for 20 minutes or something and listen to the music on the way, and have a burger or hot dog and a soft drink."

This concert, including the food, is offered free of charge.

"This is all about the public. Everybody is welcome. Bring a lawn chair, appetite and come join us."

It's also about Cochrane's music community.

"We do have a lot of musical talent here that really looks forward to having an opportunity to share their music. We all look forward to this."
