"Lights, camera, action" could soon be shouted from the Town of Crossfield once again after a production company approached them about leasing one of the town's buildings for a shoot of a TV mini-series.

In 2019, Crossfield served as the backdrop for some of the action of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" which brought the town some fame as well as a huge financial benefit for businesses.  Now the same location scout, Ken Noda of OP Banner Productions Inc., has come back to the town with another idea.

"The location scout that worked with the Ghostbusters filming in 2019 approached the town and requested to have a look at the former CIBC building," explained Merel Jarvis, the town's Interim CAO.  "They want to use it in part of their filming of a TV mini-series called 'Under The Banner of Heaven.'   I believe it'll be showcased on the FX Network."

The book the series will be based on is a true story written by Jon Krakauer who combined the origin and evolution of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a double murder committed by two brothers who were adherents to a fundamentalist version of Mormonism.   The brothers were formerly members of a small splinter group that was led by a man named Robert C. Crossfield.  It's not known if that had anything to do with the production company wanting to use the Town of Crossfield as the shooting location.

Noda expressed interest in a lease agreement to shoot scenes for the series in the old CIBC building.  That building has been purchased by the town to be developed for its new Town Office. Jarvis said as of right now plans to do that haven't been put in place so the building is available.

Jarvis recently took the idea to a town council meeting where councillors received it with great enthusiasm and excitement.

"Council was very excited to hear (the idea) and was supportive of it, said Jarvis."  The vote by council was unanimous.

Jarvis said the deal hasn't been finalized yet but needs to be soon.  "It will be roughly a six-month rental, between June and November."

Filming for "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" caused excitement in Crossfield and led to an economic boom as the company did much of its purchasing in the town.  When council made the decision to proceed with the lease they noted that fact.

In the 1950 movie Sunset Boulevard, actress Norma Desmond whispers to the camera, "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."  That line has often been misquoted so we're about to do it again by saying,  "Mr. DeMille, Crossfield is ready for its close-up once again."
