The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee is very excited to once again present Culture Fest Cochrane 2022 coming up this Sunday, September 18.

It is an opportunity for Cochrane and area residents to experience Cochrane’s rich cultural diversity at the free family event.

The annual event is held in conjunction with Alberta Culture Day, taking place on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre.

Kristina Kindree, president of Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC) says they are very pleased to “Have approximately 15 different cultures who are coming to join us as they will set up booths on that day.” Some of the countries represented will be Ukraine, England, Philippines, India, Mexico, Peru, Honduras, Nigeria, Thailand, Australia, Germany, Venezuela, Pakistan, and Japan, and representation from Indigenous groups as well.

Each booth will be showcasing and sharing its culture with attendees while celebrating the heritage of its county. Booths will also offer snack-size food samples.

Along with the various booths, there will be live performances taking place. Kindree says, “We have confirmed six different cultural performances from Portugal, England, Thailand, Scotland, Philippines, and India. There will be music and entertainment throughout the day.”

In 2019, prior to COVID-19, the annual Cochrane Culture Fest saw 600 people visit the event and Kindree says, “We are expecting a lot of people to come through the event this coming Sunday.”

Once again, it is a free, family event that everyone is welcome to attend, Culture Fest Cochrane 2022 this Sunday, September 18 from 1-5 p.m. at the Lions Event Centre on Fifth Avenue.
