With one day of play completed, the balance of the zone senior boys soccer championship has been postponed until next week due to deteriorating air quality.

Cochrane High is hosting the nine-team tournament that began on Thursday and was originally scheduled to end today. It now resumes Wednesday afternoon (June 5) and ends that evening.

The Cobras got off to a solid start. A big win against Canmore opened their tournament in a close game that went to a shoot out. That was followed by a 4-1 win over Strathmore.

Before the zones resume, the Cobras are travelling to Springbank late Tuesday afternoon to face the Phoenix in a divisional semifinal game. Should they win, they'll be heading to Airdrie on Thursday for the divisional final.

Other sports clubs are taking a wait and see approach to deciding if they will cancel any games scheduled for the weekend. That includes both minor ball and rugby. Environment Canada is currently forecasting air quality will improve to low risk overnight.

Two rugby games, though, have been given the thumbs up tomorrow, including the home opener for the Bow Valley Grizzlies of the premier Alberta Cup. Game time is 4 p.m. at Mitford Pond.
