As many people leave town for the last camping weekend of the summer there are several fire bans, restrictions and advisories to be aware of.

In Rocky View County, a full fire ban has been put in place. That means no campfires in Rocky View County even in campgrounds. Fireworks are also a no-go.

The Town of Cochrane is also under a Fire Ban.

Fire bans are also in place in several areas to the south including Foothills County, the MD of Willow Creek, The MD of Pincher Creek, the Crowsnest Pass area and even as far south as Waterton Lakes National Park.

Anyone heading west into the foothills or Rockies will need to contend with fire restrictions. Those are in place for Kananaskis, Canmore and the Bow Valley areas. That means no campfires on public land, but they are allowed in campground or on private property.

The Banff, Waiparous and Ghost Lake areas to the west and Wheatland County and Drumheller area to the east have advisories in place, meaning campfires are allowed, but people are urged to use extra caution.

The province is encouraging campers and travellers to check the current status of fire bans before they head out.
