This Saturday the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is holding a community food drive in east and central Cochrane.

They will be collecting food from the following areas;

  • GlenEagles
  • East End
  • Downtown
  • Riverview
  • Greystone

They are asking residents to leave food in front of their door before Saturday at 10 a.m. and a community volunteer will pick it up. They will door knock if no food has been left out, just to make sure you haven't forgotten to put it outside.

The event takes several volunteers to run smoothly "Usually our food drives take anywhere from 100 to 150 to canvas all of these communities quickly and successfully." says Community Engagement & Food Programs Manager April Baird.

She added "Donations are obviously on the decline. So we're not asking anybody to put themselves out and we're not asking for a lot. Just even a can of soup or a box of Kraft dinner, just anything helps."

Any non perishable is donatable, they ask that no expired or near expired food is donated.

Put all donations in either a reusable bag or recyclable box.

Three more food drives will be held this year on April 27th, September 21st, and October 19th.
