In back-to-back contestants this weekend, the Cochrane Generals proved why they are the team to beat in the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

On Nov. 6, the Gens got a little redemption against the Mountainview Colts on the road in a 7-6 win that was not as close as the score indicates.

Sunday afternoon at home, they limited the Sylvan Lake Wranglers to just two goals to skate to a 6-2 win.

Like their last matchup, the Wranglers scored first. The Gens responded 11 seconds later on an unassisted goal by Jordan Marks from the point.

"It was the same thing," says Jones. "They scored first, and then we came and responded right away. I talked about how important that was. I said if it happens today, we've got the response like we did last game, and the guys did it."

The team reviewed video just before the game in preparation for the Wranglers, who are breathing down their neck for first in the north.

Jones says the team hasn't been performing up to their potential on Sunday afternoons.

"They played very well. We stuck to the game plan, and the guys came out ready to go. We haven't been playing well in our afternoon games, so we changed up a few things, and it's nice to see."

Marks had two goals on the night and was named the first star. Riley Hopper, Tristan Ripplinger, Patrick Forde, and Dean Olenyk scored the rest.

Olenyk opened up the scoring for the Gens on Saturday night in Olds. By the end of two, the Gens were up 6-2, then fended off a Colts comeback in the third to hold on for the win.

Forde has two on the night and other scores were scored by  Ryan Davis, Jace Moffatt, Michael Bouffard, and Tristan Ripplinger.

The Gens are on the bye week and are holding their annual Pub Night fundraiser on Saturday night.

They lead the north division with a 13-2-1 record. The Wranglers are right behind them with just one more loss and have a pair of games in hand.
