The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee is busy preparing for the fourth annual Jingle & Mingle Over Soup event which is happening on Christmas Day.

Back in 2018 organizers first launched the event as a way of bringing newcomers together to meet. The event has grown over the years and typically sees both new and longtime Cochrane residents gather for a meal and spread some festive cheer.

In wake of COVID-19, the event will be modified for the second year but as Organizer Paul Singh explains the heart of the event remains the same.

"It's a big day for everybody and most businesses are closed," explains Singh. "People who are alone can come say 'hello' and meet other people and not feel isolated."

Singh says that all COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be in place at the drive-through-style event that's taking place in the parking lot of the Cochrane Alliance Church.

Guests will be treated to soup and treats courtesy of Gourmet To Go and Singh says they'll have some toys and goodies for the kids.

He says that all are welcome and encouraged to stop by and the goal is to make sure that everyone has a warm Christmas meal.

"If you have no plans please feel free to drop by,  or if you know somebody who is alone you can get soup for them or let us know and we can deliver aswell," explains Singh.

Anyone who would like to attend this year's Jingle and Mingle event can register online through EventBrite. Although it's recommended that guests pre-register, Singh says they will work to accommodate last minute guests.

"It's recommended so we can prepare accordingly but it's not necessary," explains Singh. "If you have a last minute change of plans and aren't going anywhere, we'll be able to help."

When guests arrive they'll have a chance to get in on some interactive fun and win prizes; and as a bonus, the first 10 cars will be entered to win one of four gift baskets or a gift card to a local business.

The fourth annual Jingle and Mingle event is taking place on December 25 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Cochrane Alliance Church.
