While many community members cursed the snow that fell last week, Cochrane RCMP was able to nab one more criminal off the street.

In the early morning hours of March 2, the Cochrane Crime Reduction Team was conducting checks on previous property offenders when they came across a truck reported stolen from Canmore the day prior.

Thanks to all the snow it led directly to an arrest. "Police identified a single set of footprints in freshly fallen snow which led directly from the driver’s side door of the stolen truck to the home of the identified offender."

Charged with one count of being in possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a probation order and driving while disqualified, Greg Deviat will appear in front of the Cochrane Court on March 13.

A second stolen vehicle from Airdrie was also recovered nearby. RCMP share in both cases, it was easy access for the suspect. "In the case of both recovered vehicles, keys had been left in the ignition and in one case the vehicle was left idling at the time of the theft."

RCMP reminds community members to continue reporting suspicious activity in their respective neighbourhoods to prevent more thefts.
