MacKay’s Ice Cream believes in the work of the Big Hill Haven women's emergency shelter and is the latest member of the BIZ 4 HER business sponsorship program.

"Number one is supporting the kids and the families in our community, so it was really important to us to ensure Big Hill Haven is supported," says owner Meghan Tayfel

"It's so important to have programs and resources like Big Hill Haven to really support everybody in the community and those families in distress."

BIZ 4 HER is an annual contribution program, and MacKay's made their initially $1,000 today.

Tara McFadden, the society's fund development and public relations officer, says MacKay's contribution is greatly appreciated.

"It means a lot to us that businesses are finding a way in these tough times to dig into their pockets to make a difference," says McFadden.

In exchange, BIZ 4 HER promotes the partnership through social media and various other avenues, including a decal program.

On busy days at MacKay's Ice Cream, that BIz 4 HER decal will catch the eyes of thousands.

"People sometimes know more about MacKay's than they do about Cochrane, so this is a great way to promote our cause."

MacKay's is the sixth business partner to join the program, and more are welcomed.

"We're going to keep working with our partners and make sure everybody sees the value in helping the women and children in our care and to help us provide ongoing support."
