One man is in custody and is facing numerous charges after an incident involving two stolen vehicles.

Around 11 am yesterday, September 13, Cochrane RCMP were advised of an erratic driver in a stolen cube van heading towards town from Airdrie.

Police found the van a short time later in the community of Sunset Ridge and attempted to stop it, but the suspect continued driving, turning onto Highway 22 south.

The suspect then collided with a vehicle in the Highway 22 and Highway 1A intersection, and continued on to hit another vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler at Griffin Road and Highway 22.

Witnesses reported the Jeep travelling west on Highway 1 and driving into oncoming traffic, members from the Canmore RCMP detachment then located the vehicle, and the suspect, who was now breaking vehicles in the area.

The incident came to an end when the suspect hit a police vehicle with the Jeep, and was apprehended trying to flee the scene.

Cochrane and Canmore RCMP continue to investigate, charges are pending in this case.

The identity of the suspect will not be released until charges are laid.
