UPDATE: Due to the declaration of a State of Local Emergency, tonight's town council meeting and public hearing have been cancelled. Residents are urgently asked to follow the restrictions in place to reduce our consumption of water.

Tara McFadden wants town councillors to file a disclosure statement detailing their interests in the community.

At tonight's (Oct. 24) council meeting, she's bringing forward a notice of motion to have annual statements filed, detailing the names of people, corporations, and partnerships with which councillors have an interest.

"I've been looking at that one for a while, getting some feedback from other municipalities in the area and I spoke to Municipal Affairs about bringing this forward," says Councillor McFadden. "It's about being proactive and I think demonstrating to our residents full transparency."

She wants a draft of the bylaw brought forward prior to January 31, 2024, and also to arrange a review for council of pecuniary interests and the related Municipal Government Act sections.
