The Lions rodeo and parade are the main focus of the Labour Day long weekend, but there was an opportunity to enjoy pancake breakfasts all three days.

Two of the three have become a Labour Day Weekend tradition, and the new and free Flapjack Jamboree kicked off everything Saturday morning. It was sponsored by the Cochrane Business Network and the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre

Mark Eaton, one of its organizers, says they served about 600 people and plan to make it an ongoing part of the Labour Day Weekend.

Besides breakfast, there were games for the kids and the weekly Farmers' Market was just a short stroll away. Kailey Mitchell was also onsite promoting the Cochrane Loves Local campaign. She was collecting video clips of people talking about why they choose to shop local.

Sunday, the Cochrane Alliance Church's free pancake breakfast was a family affair, complete with bouncy castles, face painting, and live entertainment from the Backroad Traveller Band, who the evening before headlined the outdoor rodeo dance.

Monday, the Cochrane Activettes drew a huge crowd for their fundraising pancake affair at the former Northstar Ford location on Railway St. in advance of the Labour Day Monday parade.

The return of Labour Day Weekend celebrations was wholeheartedly embraced by the community. Thanks to many community-minded organizations and businesses, we can now kick off each of the days with a scrumptious breakfast.
