Know any kid that blows your socks off?

The 17th annual, Great Kids Awards is looking for nominations for children or youth that make positive contributions in their community. Awards will be given to 16 deserving kids between ages 5-18 who reside in Alberta. This year the awards will be highlighting kids who have persevered despite hardships, such as:

  • Managing a physical or mental illness
  • Standing up against bullying
  • Overcoming other difficult life circumstances

Since the first award ceremony, 258 children and youth have been recognized. There are 150-350 children nominated each year including four categories with winners in each group.

Laura Fedoriw, Public Affairs Officer for Human Services, says award winners are all different age groups and walks of life; inspiring and courageous young people who have gone above and beyond what is expected of someone in their situation.

"Nominees are selected for the amazing things they have done at home, at school and within the community."

Any resident in Alberta can nominate a Great Kid- parents, teachers, coaches, pastors, social workers, neighbors and even peers. The nominator explains why their nominee deserves the Great Kid Award in a two-page letter.

Nominations are being accepted until December 16, 2016 and Awards Ceremony to take places April 30, 2017.
