Rocky View County has changed its position on the water emergency in Calgary and have issued a total fire ban.

Officials say the ban will stay in effect until repairs are made and normal water consumption can resume.  All outstanding burning and fireworks permits are also suspended until further notice.

Prohibited:

  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Burning barrels
  • Recreational campfires
  • Any fires contained within facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas
  • Chimeneas

Exceptions:

  • Indoor household fireplaces
  • Camp stoves (properly attended)
  • Propane/natural gas barbecues
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Solid fuel barbecues (charcoal briquettes)
  • Wood pellet grills
  • Oil well flaring (registration required -- call 403.264.1022)

Earlier this morning, RVC officials initially advised that no restrictions, advisories, or actions are required from county residents or businesses at this time due to the Calgary water emergency.
