Rocky View County Fire Services has now downgraded its fire ban to a fire advisory.

The ban was implemented due to lack of rain and extreme wind, however, due to milder temperatures and improving weather conditions an advisory is now in its place.

While Rocky View County isn't currently in extreme fire danger at this time, high -risk conditions remain in the area. Burning permits are still suspended and burning is banned, with the following exceptions:

  • Household fireplaces
  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Burning barrels
  • Camp stoves
  • Solid fuel barbecues
  • Propane/natural gas barbecues
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Recreational campfires
  • Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas

County residents are urged to use their good judgement, as the advisory will remain in effect as long as high-risk conditions continue in the surrounding areas.

As of 10:30 yesterday morning (September 7) a fire advisory also went into effect in the Town of Cochrane.

Open fires are allowed, but residents are reminded to be extra vigilant.

The Town of Cochrane has four fire hazard levels which are in line with the provincial levels.

They are as follows:

  1. No restriction (green)
  2. Fire Advisory (yellow)
  3. Fire Restriction (orange)
  4. Fire Ban (red)

Cochrane is currently under a level 2 (yellow) hazard.
