Cochrane drivers will soon notice a change at the Highway 1A/22 Interchange.

Lines will be painted on the temporary roundabout next week.

Alberta's Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) has issued an update regarding the line painting.

"The Highway 1A/22 interchange team is aware of ongoing public concern with the faded paint lines in and around the temporary roundabout. Please be assured that we share these concerns and have placed high priority on this issue to be addressed."

The application of road paint is dependent on weather conditions, rendering it ineffective during winter or rainy periods when the paint cannot properly adhere to the road surface if it's frozen or wet. The scheduled line painting has faced two postponements in the past due to snow and rain. However, it's now rescheduled for next week, on the evening of Wednesday, May 15, pending favourable weather conditions.

To help mitigate traffic disruption, the painting will be carried out during evening and overnight hours. The paint used for the roundabout's lines will be a more durable product compared to the one used in fall 2023, ensuring longer-lasting markings.

"We appreciate the community's ongoing patience as the Highway 1A/22 interchange gears up for another busy 2024 construction season. The project team may be reached at Hwy1A22@islengineering.com."

Work began on the $95-million interchange upgrade last year.
