The Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees has approved the 2021/22 Return to School Operational Plan and two contingency plans for the division.

During a Special Board Meeting held this morning, the Board agreed to keep some COVID-19 protocols in place to reduce transmission.

Students and staff are expected to continue to use the daily health checklist before coming to school and stay home when sick and enhanced cleaning measures will also continue.

Other continued practices include:

  • Students and staff who become ill at school are required to go home
  • Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
  • Enhanced ventilation measures

The Board voted in favour of lifting the mandatory mask mandate, they say that RVS will support students and staff in their choice to wear or not wear a mask in schools and following provincial guidelines, masks will still be required on school buses.

Cohorting and physical distancing will no longer be required in RVS schools and school assemblies, graduations and team sports may also resume. Student use of lockers is permitted  for the upcoming school year and the division says that they will no longer require close contacts to isolate.

The Board has also developed two contingency plans to be followed if required by the government :

  • Contingency 1: In-School Learning with Enhanced Health Measures
  • Contingency 2: At-Home Learning.

RVS Superintendent, Greg Luterbach says that the division will continue to closely watch the situation and make adjustments when necessary.

“RVS will continue to monitor the situation in each of our schools closely and be flexible in our plans as changes are needed,” said Luterbach. “Thanks to the dedication and resiliency of our staff, we are able to respond quickly and minimize disruptions to students’ learning as much as possible."
