Access to the Bow River from east of the Hwy 22 bridge is currently closed due to an overland sewer discharge.

An Emergency Alert was issued on Saturday evening at around 9:45 p.m. stating "A main sewer line break has occurred within the Town of Cochrane, causing an overland sewage discharge."

The access is closed from downstream of Riverfront Park to Calgary.

Water remains safe to drink.

The town says this is currently an advisory alert.

Residents are being asked to stay out of the area and away from the Bow River.
