A determined Silvertips Jr. 'B' team is riding high after a huge win over the Calgary Chill last night.

A complete team effort saw the Silvertips notch their first 'W' in several years against their arch-rivals in the central division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

The Tips built upon a 5-1 lead in the first with a nine-goal scoring spree in the second, then maintain their eight-goal lead in the third to come away with a convincing 18-10 win.

Matthew Dyck continues to be a force to reckon. He had five goals and four assists last night.

This is the breakthrough head coach Derrek Henry and the rest of the coaching staff were confident would happen.

"We've got the monkey off our back," says Henry. "Now they're going to see they're beatable. They're a great team, but they're beatable. We've proved that and that's huge for our team.

Henry says the Tips played a complete game.

"The offence was firing, the defence was shutting down and Godkey was lights out in nets. You couldn't ask for a better game."

Nolan Oakey, the team's leading scorer, says it was a sweet victory.

Nolan Oakey says the team is completely dialled. It was the first win in the eight games he played with the Tips against the Chill."I lost seven in a row against the Chill and this is the first time we've won. The monkey's off our back now and we're confident now. We went into that game ready to go, passes were dialled in and we're glad to come out with the win."

He says the team spirit is at an all-time high since he joined the Tips last season.

"I think the team is a lot tighter and everybody's comfortable with each other and we're having fun together in practice and games. We're really dialled in as a team."

Goalie Brendan Godkey was hot between the pipes and kept the deadly Chill offence at bay. The Red Deer player found a home with the Silvertips last season after Olds didn't want him. The long drives to the games haven't dampened his commitment to the team.

"It was incredible. This is my first ever win with the Tips against the Chill. I can't explain it, it's just amazing."

"Lots of shots to the crouch slowed me down a bit but other than that I felt very confident in nets. It's awesome. The team spirit is so high right now, especially with that win."

It was another big night for Matthew Dyck, who scored five goals and assisted on four. Oakey didn't have any goals but earned seven assists. Josh Halcro scored four, Colby Gulutzan, Hunter McChesney and Jordon Waddell all added pairs and singles went to Adam Bartolome, Noah Deitz and Logan Ellis.

Hunter McChesney (#33) had a four-point night.

In their only game of the week, the Tips are at home Sunday, June 16 at the SLS Family Sports Centre against the Olds Mavericks. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Tips come into the game with a 7-3 record. With one game in hand, they are breathing down the neck of the Chill for first in the central division. After a lead early in the season, the Mavericks have dropped to third with a 5-4-1 record.
