Cochranites will be in for a treat tonight if they keep their eyes on the skies.

Green comet Nishimura will reach the closest point to Earth today, and it won't be back for another 430 years.

The comet, which was discovered just last month, gives off a green glow. Astronomers are still unsure exactly where the comet came from.

Cochranites hoping to catch a glimpse of the green marvel will have to wake up about 90 minutes before dawn and look north just above the horizon.

The comet will be visible to the naked eye but a good pair of binoculars is recommended.
