The finishing touches are being added to The Station at Cochrane Crossing that will soon be open to serve the community.

The 7,700 sq. ft. building will be the transit hub and include municipal offices, public washrooms, and will provide downtown access to town services.

Adjacent to the building will be a civic plaza that will include an art installation, likely sometime next spring, thanks to a federal grant from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund.

Other enhancements include free public wi-fi throughout the site, colour controllable ambient lighting in multiple locations, additional built-in seating, and secure bike lockers.

Being completed in conjunction with The Station is a long-awaited at-grade CP rail crossing, providing a connection for pedestrians and cyclists from Railway St. into the Historic Downtown.

Kristin Huybrecht, town Intergovernmental Relations & Corporate Communications manager, says a date for the ribbon-cutting ceremony hasn't been finalized.

Earlier this summer, Mayor Jeff Genung had anticipated a Sept. 23 opening.
