UPDATE: Unfortunately, the 64 yr old male driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries.  The injuries of the 78-year-old female driver of the car are unknown. It is not known if charges are pending at this time.

Cochrane RCMP and Cochrane Fire Services both responded to a serious collision involving a motorcyclist and a car at the intersection of James Walker Trail and Highway 22 this afternoon (July 15).

Although there are not a ton of details being released at this time, Adam Loria, Public Education Officer with AHS, says the adult male motorcyclist was transported to the hospital via ground crew. "At about 2:45 this afternoon Paramedics responded to Highway 22 at James Walker Trail for an incident involving a motorcycle. That motorcyclist has since been transported via ground ambulance to Foothills Medical Centre with life-threatening injuries at this point."

Sergeant Tom Kalis with Cochrane RCMP says motorists should be prepared that traffic is expected to be impacted for some time. "We have a reconstructionist analyst on the scene, but no other details at this time."

It is anticipated RCMP will remain on the scene for several hours while a thorough investigation is conducted.

At this time, it not known whether charges will be laid and it has been confirmed that only the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital.
