Apparently, seniors have a say in Cochrane's weather.

Late yesterday morning, the sun shone, and the wind died down long enough for them to throw a Neighbourhood Party behind the SLS Centre.

Food and refreshments, live music, yummy cake, and friendly conversation were all part of the party held by the Seniors on the Bow (SOTB).

Being good neighbours, they invited the staff and tenants of the SLS Centre to join them.

"This is Neighbour Week in town, and everybody's having parties," says Pearl Walisser, who just started her second term as SOTB chair. "So, we thought it would be great to invite all of the employees from Spray Lakes to show them how much we appreciate everything they do for us."

Annually, Cochranites embrace Great Neighbour Week with activities like BBQs, front lawn parties, picnics, and local festivities. It's about embracing Cochrane's epic community spirit and making everyone feel at home. With massive growth, it's never been more important.

SOTB continues to grow in leaps and bounds and its membership is closing in on 360.

Walisser says SOTB has reached the point where they need more space, and it's something they're starting to investigate.

Jeremy Coulter, SOTB programs and operations coordinator was one of the people keeping the food coming. He confirms SOTB is a busy place.

"We've got programming pretty much open to close everyday. We slow down a little bit in the summertime so we'll be slowing things back in July but there's still a full slate of programs."

The Kickoff Party for Great Neighbour Week was postponed by poor weather. The good news is it's going held on Sept. 28.

There's a host of other events planned. You can find the full list here.
