A 30-year-old Cochrane man died Saturday (May 19) in a single off-highway vehicle collision that occurred in a remote area west of Sundre.

Sundre RCMP says they received reports of the incident involving a dirt bike just after 2:00 pm.  Because of just how remote the area was, the man had to be transported in a private vehicle to the Bearberry Community Centre.  He was met there by EMS.  STARS air ambulance was also dispatched but the RCMP say sadly the man was pronounced deceased.

The victim was an off-duty firefighter with the Rocky View County Fire Department and was based at the Bearspaw Station.

On their Twitter account, the Rocky View County Firefighter's Association says they are working on ways to support members of his family.

Sundre RCMP says the investigation is continuing but they say that alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
