As winter approaches, the Cochrane Blanket Drive, now in its second year, strives to assist animals in distress by gathering donations for local animal organizations in the community.

Organizer and realtor with Royal LePage Benchmark, Jana Husmann says they were overwhelmed with the response last year.

"It was crazy. I didn't expect that we would get three truckloads full of donations. We are hoping to get a few more this year because we will also be supporting Garcia Rescue."

Husmann, along with Sylvia Penner, owner of Pet Valu Cochrane, and Joni Fergueson, a mortgage broker with Brokers for Life have teamed up for this initiative to aid both Garcia Rescue and the Cochrane and Area Humane Society

Husmann says the idea came together after they heard about a dog who was rescued from being outside in the cold weather.

The group isn't just collecting blankets, says Husmann.

"As much as we can get. It wasn't just blankets that people donated last year, it was also toys, cat food, dog food, canned pumpkin and tuna, cat littler, office supplies and paper towel. It was amazing."

The group has put together a wish list:
