The need for blood donors is prevalent across the nation and right here in Cochrane too.

Lisa Castro, Territory Manager says, “Right now across the nation we do need more Canadians to step up and support Canadian Blood Services like never before. COVID-19 has been really challenging for Canadian Blood Services.” Between, illnesses, isolation, lifting of restrictions, and increased travel, Castro says, “it's all influencing our donor attendance at our donor events.”

Cochrane and area residents are being reminded of an upcoming Blood Donor Clinic at the Cochrane Ranchehouse on Monday, May 16 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

You can pre-book an appointment for Monday online or through the app, but Castro says, “Same day and open appointment slots are always available every day at many of the donor centers and community events across the country.”

Castor reminds donors that Blood Services continues to operate within the COVID guidelines practicing physical distancing, masking, and heightened sanitation.”

Typically, heading into spring and summer the need for blood is greater than ever and with the May long weekend coming soon, Canadian Blood Services is hopeful for strong community response in answering the call for the need for blood donations.

If you are 17 years old or older and in good health, you are eligible to donate blood. You can have all your questions answered by going to blood.ca.
