Alberta Parks has issued an advisory as an “active film production” has taken over the Grotto Mountain and Creek area.

Access to the Grotto Mountain Day Use Area, Grotto Pond and Grotto Creek Canyon Trail will be restricted to licensed guiding operators until March 24, 2024.

The Cochrane area is no stranger to Hollywood. My Life With The Walter Boys was shot right in town and quickly became a mega-hit for Netflix.

HBO’s The Last Of Us was also filmed in multiple locations throughout Southern Alberta and even featured props made by Cochranites.

Details of the Grotto area production remain limited. The What’s Shooting in Alberta schedule provided by ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) notes numerous productions in process, but none align with the Alberta Parks closure.
