One game, one goal.

Cochrane's Dillon Dube put the Flames ahead for good with a short-handed goal 2 1/2 minutes into the second. Dube battled his way into the Colorado Avalanche's end along the sideboard with Andrew Mangiapane to create a two-man rush.  He kept the puck and snapped a low wrister for the goal.

The Flames never looked back and went on to a 5-3 win against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The win marked the first time the Flames have won a season opener since 2009. It was also the 700th career regular-season win of Flames head coach Darryl Sutter.

Saturday, Dube and Bragg Creek's Dylan Holloway will be on the opposite ends of the ice in the first Oilers-Flames game of the season at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Holloway and the Oilers won their season opener against the Vancouver Canucks, also by a 5-3 margin, the night before. Holloway got two shots on goal in his first game as a starter for the Oilers.
