Fire and RCMP hockey players hit the ice Thursday for their last chance to tune-up for their upcoming fun charity hockey game on Family Day Monday.

Co-organizer Chris Chyka says there's been keen interest expressed in the game since it was announced earlier this week on Cochrane Now. Several sponsors have stepped forward to help our first responders raise funds for the Cochrane Foundation.

A little finetuning has taken place since then. The puck toss has been replaced with a special activity during the second intermission.

"What we're going to do is a shoot-out, sponsored by Cochrane Toyota," he says. "They've got some surprises for us, so if you can get it in the net, there's some pretty nice prizes up for grabs."

They'll also be a silent auction and some special guests may be in attendance.

At the heart of the event is a chance for firefighters and police officers to have a little fun in the community outside of their regular roles as our protectors.

Game time is 1 p.m. at Totem One.

Since 1993, over 105 organizations in Cochrane have been assisted by the Cochrane Foundation to continue to improve the quality of life in Cochrane.
