The first of 11 first responders' food drive parades starts tomorrow with lights flashing and sirens wailing in the Sunset community.

It's the second annual drive to help fill the shelves of the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank during the season they have the heaviest demand.

The event was organized by Town Councillor Marni Fedeyko in conjunction with the Activettes and involves members of Cochrane Fire, RCMP, EMS, municipal enforcement, and Victim Services.

Food bank chairperson Kathy Tucker says the event came about because of the pandemic and was a way for people to connect and share their Christmas spirit.

"It was just a wonderful way for our community to connect last year, and it was a really great injection of food and gifts into our Share Your Christmas campaign."

Also this week, the parade will travel through the Heartland neighborhood on Wed. Nov. 17 and Heritage Hills on Fri. Nov. 19.

Right now, the Activettes are ramping up their annual Share Your Christmas campaign.

It's a Christmas hamper program that annually provides food, clothing, and gifts to over 200 families.

Tucker says many organizations are holding their own mini-events in support of the program.

The annual Stuff-a-Bus event is jointly organized annually by the Activettes and the Cochrane and Areas Event Society and this year is being held on Dec. 11.
