Strong gusts of a cool north wind didn't prevent Cochrane's vibrant Filipino community from sharing another special celebration with Cochranites earlier today.

With the support of several sponsors, the Filipino Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta (FCACA) offered plenty of music, dance, games, and a feast that couldn't be beaten on June 8 at The Station. It also doubled as the closing event for Seniors Week.

The celebration is held annually in honour of Philippines Independence Day, and it has continued to grow stronger each year. It wrapped around the theme "A Journey Through Filipino Heritage... Then and Now."

Several traditional Philippines dances were performed by both Lakambini and the Maharlika Divas Dance Group. Award-winning Filipino singer Rolando Torres was expecting to perform song but the crowd encouraged him to sing several encores.

The festival also featured the welcomed return of the Diamond Senior Rondalla.

Vida Soraya Verzosa, foreign service officer of the Consulate General of the Philippines, was among the special guests, and was making her first visit to Cochrane.
