This Saturday, Cochrane's vibrant Filipino Community invites the public to join them at civic park at The Station, 360 Railway St. W. for a celebration of their rich heritage and a salute to the community's seniors.

It's become a tradition of the Filipino Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta (FCACA) to hold a celebration close to Philippines Independence Day and share their rich heritage with the community. It's also a day they salute Cochrane's seniors.

June is also designated as Filipino Heritage Month in Alberta.

This year's theme is "A Journey Through Filipino Heritage... Then and Now." There's food, live entertainment, cultural performances, vendor booths, a kids zone and bouncy castle.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with the raising the Philippines Flag and the celebration continues until 2 p.m.

Mila ProutMila Prout has recently been named new president of the Filipino-Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta.

New FCACA president Mila Prout says there's plenty of entertainment and it includes performances of cultural Filipino dances by Lakambini and the Maharlika Divas Dance Group.

"I'm glad that we're doing this, and I feel every year it's getting bigger and bigger and bigger."

It will be the first major event on the new green space.
