A grass fire near Calaway Park forced the amusement park to evacuate and close early Sunday afternoon. 

The park became aware of a grass fire south of the park at approximately 2:42 p.m.

"The safety of our guests and team members is our first priority." Calaway Park stated on its social media. 

"We then enacted our Emergency Response Plan in which we moved forward with an accelerated close.

The park stated on its social media that the grass fire was caused by a failure on a Fortis Alberta power pole.

According to the park, the Springbank Fire Department extinguished the fire and Cochrane RCMP assisted with traffic control.

Calaway Park will be open again on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
