The weather's looking good for the maiden voyage of Cruise Cochrane on Saturday, May 14.

The grassroots group headed by Jim Messner will be hitting the road for an afternoon cruise to Black Diamond on May 14.

First, there's a mini-show at Cochrane GM that begins at 11 a.m. Messner says that's as much for the spectators as the participants, and he welcomes people to drop by.

"That's why we do it," says Messner. "We love to have the public come out, check out the cars, and talk to the owners. A lot of them bring their children and the kids just love the cars. They're all shined up and some of them are loud, and they just enjoy it.

"It's also good for a bit of a social for the drivers and passengers to get together, especially at the beginning of the year, to renew old acquaintances."

The drivers meet briefly at noon and the cavalcade should depart for Black Diamond around 12:30 p.m.

Messner asks participants to register in advance, and you can do so here

The cruise is coming off its best year ever. They now have several volunteers lending a hand, and a few more are welcomed. Several local businesses sponsor door prizes for each cruise.

Weather permitting, they hope to have two cruises a month this summer and into the early fall.

Should you wish to volunteer, you can email CochraneCruise@gmail.com.

There's also a newsletter and updates available on their website here.
