A Cochrane woman has spent the last year working on a project that has brought what local fire fighters do on a daily basis to the forefront.

Lisa Almond, who works for the Town of Cochrane in the HR department has also been working on her Masters of Leadership and as part of her Capstone Project she decided to reach out to Cochrane Fire Services to make a photo voice project.

Almond says she approached the fire department and asked for photos.

"So how you can do this is through a photo voice project where they speak about how they feel through photo. So they submitted photos answering two questions and the questions were about connection and belonging and the culture of the fire hall. Then I took all the photos and made a video."

She says she happens to be friends with local singer-songwriter Jann Arden who graciously volunteered to take part in the project.

"The exciting part for me was I was able to engage with Jann Arden to write, produce and gift back the song to go with the video specifically for Cochrane Fire."

She says Arden has offered to donate any proceeds from the song to Cochrane Fire Services so they can pass it off to a charity of their choice.

Almond says members from Cochrane Fire Services had the opportunity to watch the video for the first time last week.

"When I watched them what I saw was emotion. When you put it all together with the music it's so much more then those brave people running into fires. Ninety per cent of what they do is actually behind the scenes. Fire prevention, talking to youth, being role models to youth and that really came through on this project."
