A group of local volunteers have teamed up with some Cochrane businesses to help brighten Easter for some families in the area.

Organizer, Paul Singh says that with the help of generous donations from Mountain Vista Law, Bow Ridge Wine & Spirits, Mehtab East Indian Cusine, The Boot and Thanh Thy; they will be providing up to six families in need, with an Easter meal.

"With the pandemic, some families are feeling the pain of that," says Singh."So why don't we do something to help them and at the same time we can help our local businesses?"

Singh credits the local organizations who have stepped up to help with this initiative. He says that despite facing challenges of their own throughout the course of the pandemic, these local businesses continue to give back to the community.

"We wanted to support the businesses too," says Singh. "They're going through a rough time too and I appreciate their efforts. They will be providing the meals."

Singh has launched a Facebook Event, and he's asking Cochranites to visit the page and nominate a deserving family.

The nominations will be accepted until Good Friday.

"It ends on the 2nd [of April] and then I will message the six families," says Singh. "If we are left with more money we're more than happy to accommodate one or two above and beyond that."

You can visit the group's Facebook Event Page to nominate a family. Each family will receive a free Easter Sunday meal valued between $30- $50 from one of the three participating restaurants.
