A holiday favourite is returning to the area and local dancers are busy rehearsing for four special performances.

Snap Dance Studios is once again setting the holiday mood with The Nutcracker.

Courtney Sproule, founder and CEO with Snap Dance Studios says they've been preparing for this production for months.

"We started working on it about a year ago, so it really is about a year's labour of love for many, many people."

The local dance studio treated residents to the holiday classic back in 2021.

"I remember two years ago I had a gym teacher come up and say, 'I thought this was going to be some little recital, but I was blown away by how professional it was.', recounts Sproule, "We had a grandfather in tears saying it was the most touching thing he had ever seen."

She says the show this year will follow along to the same famous storyline but it's a completely different show from two years ago.

"It is the same Nutcracker story but it has a little bit of a twist from the ballet because it has tap, jazz, acro and contemporary. We did it two years ago, but it really is a completely different show."

More than 130 Cochrane youth will be participating.

The shows are on December 2nd and December 9th at Rockpointe Church

Showtimes are at 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
