An incredible $14,000 was raised at last month's Read-A-Thon at Fireside School.

Reader leader's Liam Blackwell and Laura Wright read over 6,000 minutes combined to add to the school's total of 840,047 minutes.

"When I set my goal I did it of how many hours I could read a day to find out how much I could read in Read-A-Thon" said Wright, on how she was able to get 5,400 minutes. "I did 50/50 audio books and a physical book, I was reading quite a few books...I had a paper book, a book on the Kindle and then an audio book that I was listening to."

"I was surprised, I didn't think we would get that high knowing we only had half the time" said Blackwell on the total of 840,000 minutes read.

Typically Read-A-Thon is held over a one-month period at the school.

They both added the friendly competition and the energy of the event was their favourite part. The top reader at Fireside School read just over 11,000 minutes.

During an assembly on Thursday, over 100 prizes were given away as well as awards to the top readers.
