There are still spots available for a free weekend workshop aimed at teaching Cochrane residents practical hands-on-skills to maintain their homes.

Heavens to Betsy is running the event which is customized for newcomers to our area. 

Jolene Airth, organizer says they felt like there was a need in our community that needed filling. 

"There are so many excellent organizations out there that fill all the gaps but building, practical skills wasn't one of them, so we thought that we could support the community with that." 

The group hosted a similar workshop for women last year and Airth says it proved to be a success. 

"The people who attended gave us great reviews with the evaluation and they really enjoyed the financial as well as the home maintenance aspect. They learned some skills and were feeling confident that they could tackle some things in their homes." 

The workshop will teach skills including:

-drywall repair

-faucet replacement

-caulking/silicone

-door knob change-out

There will also be a 90-minute tax and investment session to kick off the event. 

The workshop goes tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre upper lounge.
